Doxa are a legend among revived Swiss watch brands, with a rich back catalogue of products to pull from that maintain an intense cult following. Their quirky designs are full of vintage flair and mystique, yet they’ve also proven themselves to be trailblazers in modern trends such as carbon fibre construction and refurbished movements. While their standard production models offer a great taste of Doxa DNA, their limited editions are really where their creativity and prowess can shine. Here are 5 of their limited editions that exemplify the Doxa identity.

Doxa SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers

Doxa limited editions

After the ‘Aqua-Lung’ regulator was created by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Émile Gagnan in 1943, the world of professional and commercial diving grew exponentially. Considering the global popularity of the dive watch genre, our hobby certainly owes a lot to those men who inadvertently created a push in wristwatch technology. Honouring the spirit of that early invention, modern technical boundaries and a rare 1967 prototype, this Doxa SUB 300 limited edition features the Aqua Lung US Divers logo within a forged carbon case. The carbon case not only provides an incredibly progressive look thanks to its swirling patterns of grey and bright yellow highlights, but also limits the weight of the 45mm case to just 87 grams for incredible wearability. On top of those features, the ETA 2824 beating inside is COSC-certified for reliable daily accuracy.

Doxa SUB 600T Pacific

Doxa limited editions

There is definitely some bias to acknowledge here, but we do believe the Doxa SUB 600T Pacific to be an incredibly special watch regardless of its Time+Tide collaborative origins. The SUB 600T is rooted in the blockier designs of the 1980s, with a monolithic style of case that will please anyone attracted to bold lines and sharp-looking chamfers. The dimensions are sweet at 40mm in diameter and 47mm lug-to-lug, and the watch is drenched in the bright Pacific blue inspired by our closest ocean. To punctuate the blue barrage that is the dial, rubber strap and ceramic bezel are orange highlights on the minute hand, hour marker surrounds, and bezel decompression markings. What’s more, the brushed titanium case gives the watch a slightly darker, utilitarian appearance as well as keeping the weight down.

Doxa Army

The name ‘Army’ has lead to the general belief these watches were issued to the Swiss Army, but the more likely story is that it was just a name for this particular dial style, just like the ‘Professional’ orange or the ‘Searambler’ silver. That hasn’t stopped the 1970s Doxa Army from gaining a fervent following, as well as this Watches of Switzerland Edition reissue. Presented in a matte black ceramic to replicate the PVD-coated look of the original with better scratch resistance, the Doxa Army features an incredibly intriguing dial with an inverted sector theme and creamy parchment tones. This watch also comes with a COSC-certified calibre, however this time it’s a Sellita SW200-1 that comes with an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day. The 20mm lug width is also a much-welcomed feature, allowing collectors to show off their Doxa Army on a huge range of aftermarket options.

Doxa SUB 200 T.Graph 18k Gold “130th Anniversary Edition”

Doxa limited editions

The stainless-steel version of the SUB 200 T.Graph is also a limited edition, and a great one at that, but you just cannot go past a whopping hunk of 18k yellow gold when you’re looking for something special and outlandish. Celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Doxa brand, 13 pieces of the T.Graph were produced in a yellow gold case and a matching solid gold, beads-of-rice bracelet. This gaudy affair is made even louder thanks to the bright orange dial and black bicompax subdials, but the surprises don’t end there. Instead of installing off-the-shelf movements, Doxa sourced N.O.S. Valjoux 7734 calibers and refurbished them for each new watch, giving the owner a direct link to the brand’s history. If you have the confidence to pull off a watch like this, there isn’t anything you couldn’t wear.

Doxa SUB 300T Divingstar ‘Poseidon Edition’

In a similar vein to the Carbon Aqua Lung release, the Divingstar ‘Poseidon Edition’ was a limited run of watches based on a historic Doxa model. After the SUB 300T was first made available with a bright yellow ‘Divingstar’ dial in 1968, the company released a co-branded version with the Swedish dive gear company Poseidon. This modern recreation is definitely more focused on vintage accuracy than it’s carbon predecessor, with a 43mm steel case and beads-of-rice bracelet that remains compact thanks to its cushion case with short lugs. There’s a helium release valve on the side of the case, which ensures that the crystal won’t pop off if used in saturation diving where the 120 atmospheres of water resistance could truly be tested.
